Culinary Education

Cooking up the skills for a bright future.

"The skills I gained in this program prepared me for a job and the support I received help me find one." – Amber, Culinary Program graduate

Amos House began the Culinary Education Program in 2002 to address the high unemployment rate of the individuals accessing our shelter programs. We recognized that individuals with barriers to employment, such as justice involvement and a history of substance use disorder, could find jobs with upward mobility in the food service industry.

The program has since graduated hundreds of students and helped individuals and families achieve stability. The students receive hands-on training through internship sites across the state. In addition, they receive instruction that prepares them to pass the National Serve Safe Exam as well as training in customer service and hospitality. Culinary Education Program graduates are now working within all aspects of the hospitality industry and many have launched their own businesses.
